DancingintherainthumbWhat is it about rain that makes you want to go out in it and run around in it? Is it the fun of getting wet? cooling off maybe? Or, how about the cleansing it gives our bodies and the freedom one feels doing? It could be all of those.

I remember as a child running around outside with my arms in the air and yelling as the rain fell. I laugh when I think of it now. After the heavy rains water would be gushing along the curb lots of us kids would be out running through it laugh kicking the water. What fun it was.

Years ago the local newspaper spotted mt brother, Tony with his daughter Shannon, just a tyke then dressed up in yellow galoshes, coats and hats with of course an umbrella strolling in the rain. It was quite the sight which landed in that nights newspaper. I wish I had that picture it was adorable.

My son’s have shared in the rain dance as well. Running out the front door into the yard and yelling. What’s that yelling about? LOL. Coming back inside wet! But feeling refreshed and renewed.

It makes me think of what storms and the rain represents in our lives. In nature there’s the storms that are dark, windy and very threatening and destructive. Others are mild or just a few sprinkles. Regardless of the severity of the storm when it reach’s it’s maximum it releases rain and passes. The rain cleans the air, waters the earth and helps it grow. Everything is renewed.

I remember as a child I was scared of severe thunder storms. Where I grew up we had severe storms with Tornado warnings. On many occasions we hung out in the basement waiting for the storm to pass. Nights I would lie awake scared to death listening to the thunder and lightening wishing my older sisters would come to bed. The fear would consume me and the thought of running out in the rain never would of come to mind then. They don’t scare me like that anymore. Although I don’t live where there are severe storms anymore I actually welcome the rain and give thanks for it.

How it plays out in our lives is similar We all experience different intensities of storms throughout our lives and when we’ve reached all we can take, it breaks, the rain comes, and then passes. The question now is, can you let yourself dance in the rain? It’s easy and natural to complain, be fearful, and angry when our storm finally hits. We can be paralyzed by our emotions not realizing or just forgetting the storm will pass and we will be cleansed, renewed and grow from our experience.

What can you do until the storm passes? Trust that this too shall pass. Take your attention and put it on something that will make you feel better and spend more time with family and friends. Better yet, DANCE IN THE RAIN!

Injoy!
